Child Nutrition Dept.PSJA Celebrates
National School Breakfast Week
March 8-12, 2010
The Child Nutrition Department prepares all food and supplies, which are delivered daily to thirty-eight (38) schools for more than 30,000 students. The Food Service Child Nutrition staff consists of 53 employees at the Central Kitchen location, and approximately 315 employees in the satellite cafeterias.
PSJA ISD currently operates under Provision 2, which means that all students are offered a free breakfast, lunch, and after-school snack regardless of economic status.
Special diets are provided to students with special needs who provide a statement signed by a licensed physician.
Almost all campuses provide breakfast in the classroom. Every student will have the opportunity to start his or her day with a great head start....BREAKFAST! Remember, breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
The Central Kitchen staff is proud of their homemade meals, which includes carne guisada, chili mac, sloppy joes and delicious enchiladas, picadillo con papas, baked potatoes and spaghetti to name a few. The Bakery department bakes biscuits, rolls, empanadas, cookies, cakes, pan dulce, peanut butter cake and apple goody among other delicious items. The Salad department makes nutritious green salads. These are some of the numerous items produced daily. With the help of all other departments, which include, Satellite school employees, Cooks, Bakery, Salad Department, Distribution, Sanitation, Warehouse, Truck Drivers, and the Food Service Department Office Staff, the students at PSJA are fed nutritious and well-balanced meals daily.
